During her time at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Lonergan took on a variety of producing roles news outlets including WCIA-3, Illinois Public Media, and UI7 Newsroom. She also did work in front of the camera as a host for Good Morning Illini and lead anchor/reporter for UI7 Live.

Lonergan is a 2025 SINBA Award-winner, earning first place in the "Outstanding Hard Television Program" category & second in the "Outstanding Soft Television Program" category. She was also part of an award-winning team with Illinois Public Media, earning the 2025 Public Media Journalists Association 1st place award for Visual Storytelling.
